Are you ready for some post-Halloween fun? Bring your jack-o-lantern or uncarved pumpkin to HRPK’s Pier 84 to squash, smash and smush them into compost to help keep our Park beautiful, green and growing.
This November, don’t miss a chance to participate in an HRPK fall favorite, Pumpkin Smash! A sustainable way to celebrate the season, during Pumpkin Smash you’ll have the opportunity to break down and repurpose pumpkins into compost with Hudson River Park’s team.
You’ll get 15 minutes of smashing fun and your choice of a bat, hammer or shovel to break up your gourd into the smallest pieces you can! Please bring your own pumpkins, as well as safety goggles.
Stick around afterward to learn from the HRPK team how composting works at the Park and enjoy the beautiful pier. Hudson River Park’s annual Pumpkin Smash is designed to help divert seasonal organic waste from landfills and educate our Park community.
Composting at Pumpkin Smash and year-round benefits both Hudson River Park and the greater NYC community. Nutrient-rich soil promotes healthier plant beds and insulates plants during the winter by helping them retain water. Collecting horticultural and food scraps also reduces our waste stream and supports the Park’s overall sustainability. Learn more about our Community Compost Program.
Our 25th Anniversary event season is presented by Hudson River Park Friends, the Park’s designated fundraising partner. HRPK Friends is an independent, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the completion, care and enhancement of the Park.
Hudson River Park is not part of NYC Parks, and we rely on private funds for our programming, maintenance and operations. That means your donations are essential to ensuring our event season remains free for the public. Show your support today.
