Neighborhood Gardener Program

Hudson River Park’s Neighborhood Gardener Volunteers are instrumental to the community, supporting substantial efforts to keep our four miles of waterfront parklands healthy and thriving. Since the program launched in 2013, Neighborhood Gardeners have contributed thousands of hours to keeping the Park green and beautiful.

Volunteer and Staff members walk down a path at Hudson River ParkNeighborhood Gardener Volunteers experience a unique side of the Park, working alongside trained horticulture staff to cultivate their green thumbs through essential, hands-on tasks — such as planting, pruning, weeding, and mulching — while learning about the flora and fauna along our beloved west side backyard.

Opportunities are available weekday mornings (9 AM—12 PM) from April through November, and orientations and trainings are held regularly to provide a comprehensive overview of our programs and build skills. No experience is necessary — everyone from beginners to garden enthusiasts are welcome!
