You can thank the New York State Department of Transportation for designing and building the protected bikeway that runs the length of Hudson River Park and beyond. Reportedly the busiest bikeway in the United States, and still owned by New York State, the bike path is part of an ever growing network of protected bike lanes created by the City and State to encourage both recreational and commuting cycling.
